Packing for yourself and a child, can actually be pretty easy. Their clothes take up far less space, and with a little forethought you can fit enough items in one piece of luggage to comfortably last you quite some time. Here are some simple tips to keep in mind while travel packing. They will help things fit and make life easier.
Simple Tips for Successful Travel Packing
- Roll You Clothes: You may have heard this one before, but there is a reason this is such a popular tip…. It works. Not only does it allow for packing more, but the clothes are often less wrinkled. It is also a great way to bundle items for convenience. Rolling up pre-selected outfits, complete with socks and underwear, will get kids ready in a jiffy during your vacation.
- Use Nooks & Crannies: Stuff stockings, socks, jewelry and such into shoes. Don’t waste space, if you can put one thing inside another, do so.
- Be Fabric Aware: Wrinkle resistant knits are your friend. They are often light and take up minimal room in your luggage as well. If you need something more rugged, consider summer weight canvas or denim (even stretch denim). They are less stiff and bulky, and also are more versatile in varying climates.
- Keep It Simple: Pack casual outfits and shoes you feel comfortable wearing. You will be in them for long hours and may be doing a lot of walking. As far as dressy outfits, stick with classic cuts in black, navy or neutrals. Look for items in easy care and wrinkle resistant and breathable fabrics. Dress shoes should also be classic and neutral, with an eye toward comfort. After a long day of activities, you will want to relax at dinner. The simple classic styles will allow accessories to stand out, so repeat wearings will be less noticeable.
- Seal It In a Bag: Sort and seal items in plastic zipper bags. Spare batteries and chargers, make-up and toiletries, should be sealed up with similar items. This makes grabbing what you need easier and reduces the likelihood of inconvenient spills.

It is able to hold an astounding amount of stuff. With the tips above, I could easily pack for both my daughter and I for a week in this piece of luggage. Of course my daughter, the pink fanatic, is in love with this hot pink piece of luggage. I am not typically big on pink, but this bag is too fun not to love (a 7 year old literally doing a happy dance, may have swayed me a little too) . The other colors from this particular line are also punchy, the ease of spotting one among other luggage is certainly a big appeal. The sides are nice and rugged, the zippers are good quality and slide with ease and the interior configuration makes good sense. One feature my daughter and I have had some fun with is the spinning action of these bags. They spin and swerve lithely, which while fun to play around with at home, would be a real lifesaver in a busy terminal, as you rush to catch a flight.
