The importance of family dinner, is something which should not be overlooked. The act of sitting down to a meal together, nourishes family members with far more than just food. It is a great way to keep a strong connection with your kids, and I’ve even seen a recent report, claiming that children who eat dinner as a family are healthier eaters in later years and less likely to become obese. Sadly, in our hectic society, it is often hard to get everyone together for a meal. Like many of you, this is something I struggle with myself.
In our home, the problem is not that everyone is not present. I work from home, and cooking is a big part of that work, so that is not the issue. My daughter’s schedule on the other hand is pretty extensive. She is a special needs first grader, and after school each day she has therapy. For 4 out of those 5 days, she has 3 hours of ABA therapy in our home, so she has snacks during her breaks, and I just make something small for her after. On Mondays when she only has an hour of therapy and on weekends, I make sure to sit down to a meal with her at least once a day. Though we are both snackers by nature, I feel it is important and she genuinely seems to enjoy it.
With the help of Ragú, getting those meals together is far easier. Especially since my daughter is a big fan of “noodles” and rigatoni.
