Puppy breath and fuzzy cuddles.
Cleaning poop and dealing with gnawed furniture and shoes.
Learning the ropes and helping her sister learn them too.
Playing soccer and big sloppy licks.
Placating fireworks fears and car ride nerves.
Waiting by the gate until we get home, even in the rain or snow.
The mournful howls and loss of appetite after the sudden loss of her sister.
Ever gentle and always watchful of her little human.
Digging up the garden and sitting on the flowers.
Worsening ailments and discomfort.
Diminishing sight and hearing.
Loss of weight and bladder control.
Struggling with the choice to take that final ride.
Holding her sweet face, to tell her one last time she is the best dog ever.
... and then she is gone.
